Even with all the mining of artists from the post-war era, there are still discoveries to be made. One of these is Martha McKay. She initially studied at the Ecole Fernand Leger in Paris. There she came under the influence of influential art critic and artist Michel Tapie, a major proponent of Tachisme and Arte Informel (the European version of Abstract Expressionism) and Japanese Gutai art. Mckay was originally represented by the influential Martha Jackson Gallery. McKay would later be diagnosed with bipolar disorder and would struggle with mental illness even as she continued to paint.
