American (1924-2007)

Paul Brach was a second generation abstract expressionist painter whose work evolved into minimalism and eventually to highly simplified landscapes of the American West.  This painting can be read as a blazing sun shining onto a range of hills or mountains.  Brach was married to the feminist painter Miriam Schapiro. He worked for much of his career in East Hampton, NY.
