BIOGRAPHY
American (1920-2015)
Butchkes, who spent much of his career in the Hamptons, was known for his hard-edge, three-dimensional wall sculptures. In part, and like many of the minimalist artists of the time, is work was a reaction to the "me" in Abstract Expressionist art and looked to establish a sort of autonomy for the created object. His work can be found in the collections of the MET, the Wadsworth Athaneum, and the Smithsonian Museums.
